Date:  June 14, 2017
Time:  6pm
Location:   777 Indiana Avenue

WHAT:    The Indianapolis Urban League invites you to attend an open community meeting with Indiana Department of Education  Superintendent Dr. Jennifer McCormick to discuss the soon-to-be submitted Indiana ESSA Implementation Plan.

WHEN:   The Meeting will take place at the Indianapolis Urban League, 777 Indiana Avenue, Indianapolis IN, 46202, at 6pm on June 14.

WHY:      The elections for President and Indiana Governor ushered in a new era for education in Indiana.

It will now be up to Governor Eric Holcomb and Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act-also known as ESSA. ESSA is the largest federal civil rights bill on education.

The state must submit its Draft Implementation Plan to Education Secretary Betsy Devos on September 18, 2017.

Come and learn about the basics of ESSA and take advantage of what may be your last chance to publicly ask Dr. McCormick and her staff what the state’s plans and vision are for education in Indiana, such as:

What are the state’s goals for ESSA Implementation in Indiana?

What safeguards are in place or will be put in place to ensure the needs of Black, Latino, Disabled and English Language Learning Hoosiers are met?

What are the state’s specific plans and strategies on how to turn around low-performing schools?

HOW:     Please RSVP to Christina Purdy via email at CPurdy@indplsul.org
