The deadline to join Outdoor Youth Exploration Academy (OYEA!) for a morning of learning the basics of building a flying a kite is closing in as the last day to turn in your application is February 18.
This is a one-day event and winners from each age group (7-10 and 11-15) will be eligible to move onto the next city-wide competition. Materials and instructions are provided.
The first rounds of kite building and flying will be held in each quadrant of Indianapolis during the month of March from 10am to noon. Winners of the initial contests will be eligible to compete in the Final Competition held at Watkins Park on March 25, 2017.
On March 4, the Southwest and Eastern Contests will be held. The Southwest Contest will be at Rhodius Park (1720 West Wilkins Street) and the Eastern Contest will be at Christian Park (4200 English Ave).
The Northeastern and Western Contests will be held on March 11. The Northeastern Contest will take place at Juan Solomon Park (6100 Grandview Drive), while the Western Contest will be at Riverside Park (2420 East Riverside Drive).
The Final Competition is set to be held Watkins Park (2360 Doctor M.L.K. Jr. Street) on March 25 from 10am-noon after Fall-Creek Cleanup day, where those involved will clean along the east side of Fall Creek Parkway from Burdsal Parkway to 38th Street.
